LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s: The Experience of Her Clothing Line
She was voted “Most Irresistible” in her Laguna Beach High School class, and it’s easy to see why. Lauren Conrad has been a major media presence for five years thanks to the MTV shows Laguna Beach and The Hills. After stepping down from The Hills, ‘LC’ can focus on doing what she set out to do: continuing building a mega-brand, in particular through her new recession-friendly clothing line, LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s. But can Lauren actually deliver as a designer?
The ads and descriptions for the clothing line paint a pleasing picture: ruffle tops and skirts, knit jerseys, and tunics to accentuate LC’s easy-breezy California style. The most popular dress style is chiffon fabrics and floral prints, with the tops continuing the sequin trend that was so prominent this past winter. Naturally, she includes a maxi dress in her collection, one of her trademark red carpet looks. However, a trip to Kohl’s to actually check out the line wasn’t an awe-inducing occasion. The Lauren Conrad selection featured a lot of the black tops and skirts as well as slate gray dresses and tunics. The amount of somber, muted colored clothes was surprising, given that it is a spring line. The LC line on the Kohl’s web site only features a handful of light-colored clothes, including a sky-blue chiffon dress and an eye-catching magenta watercolor prints that the store didn’t feature.
However, when tried on, the clothes do not disappoint. Among one of the most trendy and comfortable choices is the LC Lauren Conrad Black Ruffle Mini Skirt (pictured above). The skirt’s fabric is tissue-soft, with an elastic waistband, comfortable for a stroll around campus or a night out. The elastic waistband and ruffles make it flattering on almost any body type, like many of the clothes.
Another favorite are the LC Lauren Conrad trouser capris, made of silky water-light fabric which come in blue-gray and black. Above anything, LC’s clothes are comfortable and safe, a little like Lauren herself. However, as it is a spring line, it wouldn’t have hurt to throw in a couple of bold citrus colors here and there. Lauren has made a career of being the all-American good girl, but young women should have fun with fashion, and her clothing should reflect that more.
