SMART Packing for a Summer Vacation – Essentials for Travel

Packing for a vacation is overwhelming! What do I really need? What will the weather be like? Do I need to bring 6 pairs of shoes? From hair products to body cream from jeans to a sweat shirt, what do we really need to bring? Summer vacations are around the corner and the stress and anxiety of packing are sure to come as well.

Every airline at this point has many rules and regulations when it comes to luggage. Make sure to read up on your airlines policies on weight limits and how many bags one can bring. Flying internationally tends to be more lenient with weight than flying within the United States. Weight of your bag is the first step in packing reasonably. This will let you know if the 6 pairs of shoes are really necessary.

It’s easy to pack light clothes during the summer season. Pack sundresses, tank tops and skirts because they are light and easy. My advice is to start packing at least 7 days before you go. Lay all your outfits out that you want to take. As the week progresses remove items or start to mix and match items. What ever you do, do not add more clothes! The motto “less is best” applies here ladies! Once your clothes have all been added, now its time for shoes and accessories to pair up with the outfits. Be careful with your shoe choices and ask your self if there is going to be much walking for sneakers? Shoes are the number one problem with an overweight bag. Just keep it easy and light for your own sake! And remember some comfortable flip flops for the pool and beach! Your accessories should go with everything that way you have a choice of what earrings to pair with your outfit!

Honestly packing all depends on where you are going but if you start early and make logical decisions on what clothes, shoes and accessories to bring…..you should be fine! It’s a vacation so have fun, relax and get some sun and don’t worry about what outfit you are going to wear that night!
