One of the fans of the English team was able to go through all the security and enter the team’s locker room. The incident took place just minutes after Prince William and Prince Harry had visited the players in an attempt to lift team spirits.
The supporter, who was wearing a red shirt, is now wanted by South African police for trespassing.
But Prince William joked yesterday that the intruder was “me dressed in a shirt”.

He then added: “Harry and I left the door open, that’s why it happened. It was our fault. We take responsibility.”

The princes were speaking at an FA reception in Johannesburg along with David Beckham, who was confronted by the supporter.

Beckham, the former England captain who has missed the tournament through injury, said: “Luckily it was after the princes had left, five or ten minutes after. Obviously it’s been blown out of proportion as well. The fan literally just walked in, very casually, and just said something to me and then walked out. There was no scuffle, there was no aggression at all.”

Asked what the fan had said, Beckham added: “It was a very personal conversation, he didn’t comment on the performance, he literally walked in and said hello.”
