Icelandic Inspiration Straight from NYC

To be quite honest, Iceland is just one of those countries I know little about (it’s the one that’s actually green right?). But, if it could inspire some of the looks for Lost Art’s latest collection, then consider my ticket booked.

Lost Art is the luxury leather couture label created by Jordan Betten. Since founding the label in 1997, Betten has dressed the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Steven Tyler, Julia Roberts and Sheryl Crow.

When Betten isn’t designing leather outfits for star-studded clients, he is wielding a paintbrush. His acrylics on canvas have produced considerable buzz. Betten’s artwork has been showcased at the Museum of the City of New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Betten’s double life as fashion designer and visual artist seems almost obvious when gazing at Lost Art’s latest collection. The pieces seem to pop out of the photos and each item of clothing looks skillfully crafted to perfection, lending further credibility to the notion that fashion absolutely is art.

Looking at the stunning photographs of Betten’s 2010 creations, I can’t help but lust a little. Some of falls biggest trends are duly incorporated: feathers, animal influences and military-style adornments. Each piece is luxurious and fashion forward, yet classic enough to outlive changing trends. And really, what’s not to love about leather pants with fringe? Every lady loves an outfit that is twirl-worthy.
